▓░▒║ OVERVIEW ║▒░▓
╚════════════╝
Most gamers agree that Esterian Conquest is one of the best door games going
right now. It has bugged me for a while that there was no ANSI bulletin
created by the game. Also, My roommate and I would stay up late and compare
who has what to what we remembered from the night before. "Look, Death's
Friend's planets went down by two, and Lugiwiania increased by one."
I have decided to fix these minor let downs with this simple freeware
program. EC_RANK takes the information provided by the bulletin that EC
creates and makes an ANSI and ASCII bulletin showing all the vital
information including percentages of planets and potential owned and
comparisons to the prior stardate.
All paths are fully configurable to support any BBS system and extensions and
all colors of the ANSI bulletin are fully configurable.

▓░▒║ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ║▒░▓
╚═══════════════════════╝
- IBM or compatible Personal Computer with approx. 34K free memory.

▓░▒║ FILES CREATED BY THIS OBSESSION ║▒░▓
╚══════════════════════════════════╝
EC_Rank, of course, creates an ANSI and ASCII bulletin for Esterian
Conquest. You decide the path and file name for these files to be
compatible with all BBS systems.
EC_Rank also creates a data file to keep track of previous year number of
planets and production potential. This info is stored and displayed on the
bulletins to help players compare current values to earlier values.

▓░▒║ CONFIGURATION/INSTALLATION ▒░▓
╚══════════════════════════════╝
It's simple. I'd suggest that you put the files included in this archive in
your Esterian Conquest directory, though you do not have to. There are two
easy ways of configuring EC_RANK:
1) Run EDIT_ECR and use the name of the config file to be edited. For
example EDIT_ECR EC_RANK.CFG. A sample bulletin is displayed at the
bottom of the screen to help in eyeballing the color schemes of the
bulletins. Everything is basically self explanatory so just try it and
feel your way around.
2) Type up a file using your text editor by the name EC_RANK.CFG (or just
alter the one that is included) and put in the following parameters:
Line 1: Your BBS Name
Line 2: Location + name of the bulletin Esterian Conquest produces. For example
C:\DOORS\EC\RANKINGS.TXT.
Line 3: Location + name of the ASCII player bulletin to be produced. For
example C:\DOORS\BULLETIN\BULLET1.ASC.
Line 4: Location + name of the ANSI player bulletin to be produced. For
example C:\DOORS\BULLETIN\BULLET1.ANS.
Line 5: Location + name of data file for EC_RANK. For example
C:\DOORS\EC_RANK\EC_RANK.DAT.
Line 6: Header foreground color
Line 7: Header background color
Line 8: Box outline foreground color
Line 9: Box outline Background color
Line 10: Normal text foreground color
Line 11: Normal text background color
Line 12: Mat foreground color
Line 13: Mat Background color
Line 14: Box shadow foreground color
Line 15: Box shadow background color
Line 16: Dead player foreground color
Line 17: Dead player background color
FOR LINES 6 - 17 USE THE FOLLOWING VALUES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Foreground: Background:
0 Black 9 Lt. Blue 0 Black
1 Blue 10 Lt. Green 1 Blue
2 Green 11 Lt. Cyan 2 Green
▓░▒║ LET'S RUN THIS PUPPY ║▒░▓
╚════════════════════════╝
Alter your existing midnight .BAT file (or whenever you run your ECMAINT
program) to look something like the following:
[blah blah blah]
CD \DOORS\EC
ECMAINT /R
EC_RANK EC_RANK.CFG
[blah blah blah]
and that should do it. Notice the /R switch on the ECMAINT call. THIS IS
VERY IMPORTANT! EC_RANK uses this file to update it's records and to pull
in current values for the bulletins.
Alternate config files may be placed on the command line to aid those using
multiple games on their systems.
▓░▒║ ABOUT CALIBER SOFTWARE ║▒░▓
╚══════════════════════════╝
I keep the end user in mind. I go out of my way to make things easy to
operate, understand, install, etc. I do not fail to implement
functions because it would inconvenience me. I listen to what YOU have
to say. If you have a good suggestion send it in and you will probably
see it in the next release.
Caliber Software takes the position that shareware is a friendly
concept. I do not believe that Shareware should cost the outrageous
prices that some authors are asking for. For this reason I keep my
programs in the $5 - $10, and MAYBE $15 is I did a lot of work and the
program is worth it.
I try to keep the quality of my programming up. Professionalism is the
key to shareware. If it's going to work, it needs to be good, and this
is what I am striving for.
I keep my programs as slim and trim as possible. They are always full
featured but do not have to be 6 megs to get the job done. Small and
fast is another goal that I strive for.
▓░▒║ HOW TO REGISTER ║▒░▓
╚═══════════════════╝
You don't register! Use and enjoy! All I ask is that you briefly check out
the CALIBER.TXT file included. This program is basically advertising for my
other products. Also, a note dropped to me at one of the addresses listed
above would be greatly appreciated.
